The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA between the 26th of October and 1st of December 2025 played host to accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission, NUC which came for the statutory yearly review of course and benchmarking facilities for teaching , research and other related functions of universities.
In all,10 accreditation teams visited various Departments cutting across the various schools of the University. The Departments visited were computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information and communication Technology,Building.Remote Sensing and Geo Science Informatics, Nutrition and Dietetics,Human Anatomy, Physiology and Medicine and surgery.
The various teams commended the institution for sustaining its standard and maintaining its position as the best University of Technology. The teams were particularly impressed by the provision commodious classrooms, and lecture halls and satisfactory equipment and facilities that help to aid the learning process of the students.
In response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji described accreditation as a peer review exercise indispensable in the drive to make the Nigerian University system relevant globally. She thanked the teams for heeding the call to serve the Nation. Professor Oladiji said FUTA does not window dress and as a result is very open to corrections and learning new things. She assured the team that areas of gaps would be looked into and corrected for the betterment of the system.
The Director Academic Planning, Professor Oluseyi Awodele, whose office is responsible for the coordination of the exercise said ,accreditation is not an avenue to witch hunt, but rather an exercise where colleagues from sister institutions can learn different things. He thanked the management for providing all facilities needed to make the exercise successful.
