A lecturer in the Department of Biology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Dr. Babajide Milton Macaulay, has officially unveiled a self-help book titled Scholar’s Bible. The book is targeted at supporting and guiding aspiring scholars in accessing fully-funded scholarship and related opportunities in relevant foreign countries.
Making the presentation of the Book to the Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji in her office, Dr. Macaulay explained that the book is a direct response to the growing number of students and graduates who seek mentorship on how to secure international scholarships. “On average, over 20 individuals reach out to me daily for guidance. Since I can’t be everywhere at once, I decided to put my thoughts, experiences, and tested strategies into a book. If you read this book, it’s as though you’ve sat down with me one-on-one,” he said.
Reacting to the presentation of the book, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji who described the Scholar’s Bible as a Legacy of Mentorship and Impact expressed deep admiration for Dr. Macaulay’s initiative and recognised the book as “a timely and invaluable resource that captures the true spirit of academic mentorship and global competitiveness.”
“This is not just a book,” the Vice Chancellor remarked. “It is a mindset—one that sees beyond limitations and creates pathways for others to rise. Dr. Macaulay has proven that scholarship is not only about personal advancement, but about lifting others as you climb.”
She noted that the book aligns with FUTA’s core values of excellence, innovation, and service, and praised Dr. Macaulay for transforming personal experience into a practical guide that can empower hundreds of students and staff.
“The story behind your first scholarship alone is inspiring. I am particularly impressed by your deliberate effort to document what many scholars simply talk about in passing. This is what legacy looks like,” she further noted.
She concluded by encouraging other academics within FUTA to emulate the model of using personal success as a tool for communal empowerment.
Dr. Macaulay, who described his journey as one filled with faith, failure, and fulfillment, hopes Scholar’s Bible which draws from his experience of winning 14 scholarships and fellowships within 20 years, offers a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to demystifying the scholarship application process as it begins with the story of how he secured his first scholarship unexpectedly after following a friend to the test venue, a testament to the power of courage and mind set.
He is positive the book will empower more young Nigerians to pursue their academic dreams with focus, resilience, and excellence.
Among the topics covered are the differences between academic and corporate CVs, how to align one’s profile with the right scholarship, and how to approach personal statements. It also includes practical advice on post-award challenges and reintegration, especially for scholars returning to Nigerian academic Institutions.
In the final chapter, Dr. Macaulay highlights what he terms the “FUTA Mentorship Pyramid,” where alumni who have benefitted from scholarship opportunities subconsciously inspire and mentor the next generation. He called on scholars to not only succeed abroad but also return to contribute meaningfully to their Institutions and communities.
The book is available in both soft (selar) and hard copy formats.
