The Hon. Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, has led a high-level delegation to Accra this week as part of efforts to strengthen education reforms under the country’s 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 (𝗣𝗔𝗠𝗣) 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.
Hosted by the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Education Service (GES), the study tour was marked by warm exchanges between the two state institutions.
In her official statement, Minister Drammeh expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Ghana’s Minister of Education and senior officials, describing the visit as a reflection of pan-African collaboration and brotherhood.
Through the Program-for-Results (PforR) framework, the PAMP project places emphasis on human resource management, transparency, and accountability in public institutions positioning education as a critical sector, given its large share of the civil service workforce.
During engagements in Ghana, MoBSE officials were particularly impressed by 𝗚𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 and its 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.
The system monitors teacher attendance and punctuality, tracks facilities, ensures textbook availability, and integrates community feedback into policy decisions. Delegates noted that these innovations have contributed to measurable gains in literacy and numeracy outcomes among Ghanaian learners.
The Hon. Minister proposed initiating discussions toward a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ghana’s Ministry of Education to deepen cooperation.
The Minister noted that such a partnership would institutionalize regular exchanges, allowing both countries to share best practices, exchange technical expertise, and reinforce data-driven accountability systems.
Minister Drammeh also conveyed warm greetings from HE President Adama Barrow to Ghana’s President HE John Dramani Mahama, reaffirming The Gambia’s commitment to building a lasting bridge of cooperation in education reform.
