The Vice-Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Professor Adeniyi Olatunbosun (SAN), has appealed to the Federal Government to extend the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to students in private universities.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the university’s fifth convocation ceremony, Olatunbosun said education should not be divided by ownership, stressing that private university students also deserve equal access to government support.
“NELFUND is targeted at students of public universities, but it should also include those in private institutions. Education is universal, and we all contribute to national development,” he said.
He argued that excluding private university students undermines fairness and limits the nation’s educational progress.
Olatunbosun announced that 203 students would graduate this year — the university’s largest set since its inception — with 12 earning First Class Honours. He described the steady rise in graduate numbers as proof of the university’s growth and improved standards.
He also revealed that 13 academic programmes, including Law and Nursing Science, recently received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, respectively. The Law programme’s first graduates are now qualified for the Nigerian Law School.
Highlighting the university’s progress, the VC mentioned the commissioning of the Senate Building, new hostels, upgraded laboratories, and the launch of the Postgraduate School. He noted that KDU students have excelled in national and international competitions, winning recognition for research and innovation.
Professor Olatunbosun expressed gratitude to the founder and Chancellor, Chief Kola Daisi (CON), whose vision and philanthropy, he said, continue to sustain the university’s mission.
He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing graduates who combine knowledge with character.
“Our vision remains to be a world-class university producing graduates equipped to meet the socio-economic needs of a knowledge-driven economy,” he said.
