The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sensitised secondary school students in Osun State on career choices, leadership and emerging skills needed to succeed in the modern world.
The programme, tagged “Teen LEAD Conference,” was organised by the Osun State Senior Secondary Education Board in collaboration with Destiny Development Initiative (DDI). It was held recently at Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo, and featured students from selected public and private senior secondary schools across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Osun State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr Babatunde Jacob, represented by the Head of SERVICOM, Mrs Oluwabunmi Adesina, described leadership as the ability to inspire, motivate and guide others toward a common goal. She said effective leadership involves good listening skills, teamwork, sound decision-making, accountability and a commitment to personal and collective growth.
She noted that choosing a career is a lifelong process and urged students to carefully consider factors such as their interests, skills, values, job prospects and lifestyle before making career decisions.
Delivering a paper titled “Emerging Skills in the 21st Century,” the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Osun State University, Osogbo, Prof. Florence Yusuf, emphasised the importance of digital literacy. She encouraged students to develop skills in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, data analysis and problem-solving, describing them as critical for success in today’s fast-changing, technology-driven environment.
The conference also featured professionals from various fields who shared their experiences and inspired the students to pursue their ambitions with confidence and purpose.
