The Lagos State Government has commended retired officers of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), describing them as key pillars in the drive to uphold and sustain quality education across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, gave the commendation while addressing 2025 retirees at the OEQA Retirees’ Send-Off and End-of-the-Year Get-Together held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja
.
Alli-Balogun said the successes recorded by the OEQA over the years were the result of the dedication, discipline and individual contributions of its retired staff, noting that their impact would continue to be felt beyond active service.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to strengthening education quality assurance through clear policy direction, capacity building and institutional reforms, adding that the experience of retired officers remains crucial to building a resilient and future-ready education system.
“Though you are retired, you are not tired. You can still contribute meaningfully to society. My office remains open to you, and your ideas and guidance will always be welcome,” the commissioner said.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, congratulated the retirees and urged serving officers to emulate their professionalism, integrity and commitment to duty.
She described OEQA evaluators as the “police officers of education,” stressing that strict adherence to quality standards is central to the credibility of the education sector.
The newly appointed Director-General of OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, described his appointment as a “homecoming,” recalling his journey from staff member to the agency’s leadership.
He praised the retirees for laying a solid foundation during the agency’s formative years and said their mentorship and experience would remain invaluable as OEQA continues to evolve.
