In a decisive move to strengthen institutional integrity and reinforce public trust, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has formally inaugurated and inducted its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).
The ceremony marks a key step in NELFUND’s ongoing efforts to embed transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct into all aspects of its operations, in line with national anti-corruption standards.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed Management’s unwavering commitment to integrity-driven governance, effective internal controls, and a zero-tolerance stance on corrupt practices in the execution of the Fund’s mandate. He emphasized that the establishment of the ACTU reflects leadership’s resolve to institutionalise ethical practices rather than treat them as procedural formalities.
The event was attended by senior officials of the Fund, including the Executive Director, Operations, Mr. Mustapha Iyal, Directors, Heads of Units, and representatives from key supporting departments.
A goodwill message was delivered by the Honourable Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, who commended NELFUND for proactively establishing the ACTU. He described the Unit as an essential internal mechanism for strengthening compliance, identifying systemic vulnerabilities, and promoting ethical standards within public institutions.
Dr. Aliyu stressed that the ACTU is designed to complement Management’s oversight functions rather than replace them, and called for sustained institutional support to ensure its effectiveness.
The inauguration of the ACTU aligns with NELFUND’s broader vision of expanding equitable access to education financing while maintaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.
Management has therefore urged all staff to give full cooperation to the ACTU and to continue discharging their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence, and a strong sense of ethical responsibility.
