Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tijani Alausa, attended the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) board meeting in Dubai’s Expo City, representing the Africa 3 Constituency, which includes Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and São Tomé & Príncipe.
Dr. Alausa expressed Nigeria’s pride in joining the global platform, emphasizing GPE’s role in uniting governments, educators, civil society, and development partners to transform education systems worldwide. “Transforming education and fostering partnerships is in GPE’s DNA,” he stated.
The meeting served as a forum to evaluate progress, refine strategies, and address emerging challenges to ensure inclusive and equitable education for all. A key agenda item was the strategy for fund disbursement during GPE’s 2025 fundraising cycle, aimed at targeting areas with the greatest need.
Highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to education, Dr. Alausa detailed the Federal Ministry of Education’s proactive approach in leveraging development partnerships through initiatives like the E-SWAP (Education Sector Wide Approach Program), a critical component of the National Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).
“We are focused on building capacity, improving infrastructure, modernizing curricula, and enhancing the quality of teachers and educational materials,” Dr. Alausa said, adding that such efforts will strengthen the quality of Nigeria’s graduates and better prepare the youth for the future.
Nigeria’s active participation in the GPE board meeting reflects its dedication to collaborative efforts that prioritize education as a cornerstone for national and global development. “Our young people are our greatest asset, and we must invest in their future to unlock their potential,” the minister concluded.
The GPE board meeting in Dubai underscores the shared commitment of global stakeholders to ensure quality education and sustainable development for all.
