The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has announced plans to return to his alma mater, Ibadan Boys’ High School, where he once taught, to inspire students with lessons in Mathematics and Physics after his coronation.
Ladoja disclosed this on Monday while receiving the school’s management team, led by Principal Rasheed Fasasi, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The former Oyo State governor and respected high chief emerged as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun in March 2024. His elevation reflects Ibadan’s unique succession system, which allows almost every eligible high chief the chance to ascend the throne if they live long enough.
Speaking during the visit, Ladoja recalled his days as both a student and teacher at Ibadan Boys’ High School.
“Beyond being an alumnus, I once stood in front of students here as a teacher of Mathematics and Physics. After my coronation, I will return not just as Olubadan but as a teacher, to engage the students in classwork,” he said.
He commended the school’s leadership for sustaining its reputation as a model institution and emphasised the role of education in shaping society.
In his remarks, Principal Fasasi described the monarch’s pledge as a morale booster for students, noting that such a visit would rekindle their pride in the school and motivate them to pursue excellence.
Ladoja’s gesture underscores the deep link between Ibadan’s traditional leadership and education. His decision to re-enter the classroom symbolises not only a reconnection with his roots but also a commitment to mentoring the younger generation.
As the city prepares for his coronation, the forthcoming Olubadan’s plan to combine cultural leadership with intellectual guidance is expected to inspire both the academic and wider community.
