The Nigeria Red Cross Society, FUTA detachment has celebrated its 10th year anniversary. The weeklong celebration with the theme “Service beyond Borders:FUTA Red Cross at 10” climaxed with the Passing Out Parade (POP) ceremony of new members and also installation of new executives at the Sports Complex on the 23rd August 2025.
In his speech at the occasion of the Dean, Students Affairs, Professor David Oke described the occasion as a remarkable milestone. “I acknowledge the tireless efforts of our students and staff who have worked alongside the Red Cross to make a difference in our community. The Red Cross Society has been a beacon of hope and compassion, providing critical services such as blood donation drives, first-aid training, and disaster relief efforts. Their commitment to promoting humanitarian values and empowering individuals aligns perfectly with our institution’s mission.Thank you to the Red Cross Society for their dedication and service. Let us continue to work together towards a more compassionate and resilient” , the Dean said.
On his part the staff Adviser of the society, Dr. Gbenga Enisan said” this is a celebration of 10 years of contributing to service to humanity. We have produced over 400 students who have assisted the university in growth and progress. We have developed strategies and goals that have helped us move ahead even though It has not been an easy task . Our students have been cooperative as well and we commend the University management as well for their unwavering support. ”
In his speech the FUTA Detachment Commandant, 2024/2025 session, Ismail Olaoye highlighted the activities of the society such as training new members in essential and psychological First Aid, provision of medical standby at university events and assisting registration at the University Health Center and numerous Blood Donation Drives.
Recounting the experiences of the society he said “Today we celebrate not just an end, but a journey defined by compassion, resilience and service. Your legacy is written in every life you touched and every emergency you responded to. You have served with distinction. The path was not without it’s challenges. We faced logistical hurdles and funding constraint. We turned every challenge into an opportunity, proving conclusively that where there is a will to serve a way will always be found “.
He appreciated the university management for its unalloyed support to the society. He also commended past and present members of the society for their selfless contributions to the university.
Representing the Ondo State Chapter, Trainer Taiwo Filani said “To our students, I encourage you to get involved with the Red Cross and explore opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and community service. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and create a brighter future for all. Thank you to the Red Cross Society for their dedication and service. Let us continue to work together towards a more compassionate and resilient world”.
12 new members were inducted into the Society and the inauguration of new executives for the 2025/2026 academic session climaxed the event.
Special awards of recognition were given to individuals who have supported the society. The awardees were the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor David Oke, the University’s Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, and the Staff Adviser, Dr. Gbenga Enisan .
The ceremony was attended by past and present executives and members of the society.
