The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled a new national initiative that will engage retired technical teachers as Internal Quality Assurance Managers (IQAMs) under the New TVET Initiative. The move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at expanding opportunities and strengthening the technical and vocational education sector.
According to an official letter dated November 14, 2025, the Ministry approved the deployment of experienced retired educators to boost teaching capacity and strengthen quality assurance across TVET institutions nationwide.
Under the arrangement, retired technical teachers will serve in two major roles:
1. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
They will support institutions by teaching key trade and technical subjects, helping address shortages of qualified instructors in technical colleges.
2. Internal Quality Assurance Managers (IQAM)
These seasoned educators will help monitor, assess, and maintain high academic and operational standards across TVET institutions.
The Ministry noted that the vast experience these retired teachers bring will help bridge knowledge gaps, improve instructional delivery, and enhance overall program quality.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to revitalizing technical education. He noted that engaging retired professionals provides immediate expertise while supporting national goals of skills development and employability.
Interested retired teachers and technical educators seeking to join the program are encouraged to contact the National Coordinator via 08033891762 for further details.
