The Sokoto State Government has completed the construction of several pedestrian bridges near schools located along major highways, a strategic effort aimed at improving student safety and strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, PhD, approved the project following persistent appeals from pupils in primary and junior secondary schools who expressed worry over the dangers of crossing high-traffic roads during their daily commute.
According to government officials, the newly constructed bridges are intended to significantly reduce road-related risks and reassure parents that their children can travel to school safely without fear of accidents.
Education stakeholders have lauded the initiative, noting that the intervention will not only enhance safety but also increase school attendance—especially in communities where traffic congestion and speeding vehicles have previously discouraged students from walking to school independently.
The construction of the pedestrian bridges forms part of the administration’s broader commitment to creating a safer and more conducive learning environment across Sokoto State.
