The Sokoto State Government has announced that the newly established Sokoto Girls Science Academy will officially begin academic activities in January 2026.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor A. L. Ala, during the flag-off of the distribution of furniture and essential drugs to junior and senior secondary schools across the state. The event took place at the Government Central Stores, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, in Sokoto.
According to Professor Ala, all necessary arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth take-off of the academy, which will begin operations with an initial intake of 634 students.
He further revealed that the government had also approved the establishment of an Out-of-School Training College, the creation of ten computer libraries across the state’s three senatorial zones, and the provision of additional beddings, textbooks, and exercise books to enhance learning conditions.
The Commissioner disclosed that ₦930 million was spent on the procurement of furniture, while ₦48 million was allocated for essential drugs to be distributed to secondary schools.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to transforming the education sector. He noted that the present administration had made remarkable progress since inception and urged stakeholders to support its vision by promoting effective teaching and learning.
The State Chairman of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPS), Muhammad Ikililu, commended Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu’s administration for its continued investment in education, describing it as a significant stride toward realizing the government’s nine-point agenda for the sector. He assured that all distributed materials would be used judiciously to enhance academic performance and infrastructure.
Other speakers, including Malam Yusuf Umar Jabo, Chairman of the Ministry’s Implementation Unit, and Malam Murtala Abubakar, State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), applauded the government for its sustained commitment to improving education in Sokoto State.
The event’s highlight was the symbolic presentation of furniture and essential drugs to selected schools, including Sultan Bello Secondary School, GDSS Kofar Marke, GDSS Tambuwal, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, and GGSS Rabah.
