South Korea is set to invest $15 million in a groundbreaking five-year digital education project in Egypt, aimed at transforming the country’s public education system and strengthening bilateral ties.
The initiative was announced following a high-level meeting in Cairo between South Korean Ambassador Kim Yonghyon and Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Latif.
Covering 54 public middle schools across all 27 Egyptian governorates, the project will focus on:
ICT-based curricula development
Digital skills training for teachers
Upgraded school infrastructure (including computer labs and internet access)
Enhanced systems for school administration, evaluation, and policy planning
Preparatory studies will run through 2026, with full implementation scheduled to begin in 2027.
Driving Egypt’s Digital Education Transformation
The project is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to integrate digital technology into its education sector, responding to the growing demand for future-ready skills, including AI, data literacy, and digital communication.
With its extensive global experience in digital education, South Korea aims to share best practices to help Egypt build a modern and inclusive education system.
Cultural & Linguistic Cooperation Grows
Beyond digital infrastructure, the partnership also highlights expanding cultural ties. The popularity of the Korean language is growing rapidly in Egypt, with the King Sejong Institute of the Korean Cultural Center reporting high demand for Korean language courses.
To meet this interest, two new language institutes were opened in Cairo and Alexandria in 2025, and discussions are underway to integrate Korean language education into Egypt’s public school curriculum—similar to how Arabic is taught in Korea.
Shared Vision for the Future
Both nations have expressed a long-term commitment to enhancing educational and cultural cooperation. This project is a strategic step toward equipping Egyptian youth with the digital competencies and global perspectives needed in a rapidly changing world.
