The Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, alongside management staff and other stakeholders, convened a preliminary meeting to deliberate on the crucial role of effective communication and publicity in disseminating educational policies and programs. The meeting sought to develop a strategic framework for enhancing the Ministry’s outreach and engagement.
Participants underscored the importance of a structured communication and publicity strategy. The key resolutions included the necessity of a comprehensive communications and publicity strategy for promoting the Ministry’s initiatives, the delegation of specific tasks and responsibilities to stakeholders for seamless execution, and the development of an actionable roadmap to guide implementation.
To ensure the effective execution of the communications strategy, the meeting resolved to develop a comprehensive communications strategy collaboratively, assign roles and responsibilities among stakeholders, and set implementation timelines to track progress and ensure timely execution.
The Director of Press was designated to oversee coordination and strategy execution, while the Communications Manager was tasked with spearheading the strategy’s development and implementation. Other stakeholders were assigned specific tasks to ensure smooth execution of the plan.
The agreed implementation timeline included the development of the strategy within two weeks from the meeting date, task allocation within a week post-meeting, and continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure the effective execution of the strategy.
The meeting reaffirmed that a well-defined communication strategy is pivotal in advancing the Ministry’s educational objectives. The agreed-upon framework and action plan will ensure effective dissemination of educational programs and initiatives across Nigeria.
The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Partnership for Learning for All Nigerians (PLANE), hosted a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing communication strategies for key personnel. Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press, lauded PLANE as an essential initiative supporting the education sector and emphasized the necessity of continuous professional development, using an allegorical reference to stress the importance of lifelong learning.
Organized under the UK International Development Initiative, the workshop brought together Information Officers, ICT personnel, and Education Support Services (ESS) staff. Key discussions included the role of communication in policy implementation, with representatives from PLANE, including Federal Lead Abiola Sanusi, Dr. Lauratu Umar Abdussalam, and Communications Manager Philips Bukola, presenting on the alignment of e-learning platforms with the national curriculum.
The workshop, themed “Equipping Federal Ministry of Education Key Staff with the Tools to Develop and Implement a Communication Strategy Aligned with Ministerial Deliverables and Nigeria’s Education Sector Renewal Initiatives (NESRI),” offered hands-on training in strategic messaging, media engagement, and policy advocacy. Lead consultant Dr. Shola M. Okpodu provided insights into target audience identification and optimal dissemination channels.
The sessions concluded with interactive discussions and the drafting of a communiqué outlining the roadmap for implementing improved communication strategies. Participants highlighted the need for continuous training to enhance communication efficiency, the adoption of best practices in educational communication, and the selection of appropriate media channels for targeted messaging. The workshop reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to refining its communication strategies through structured training and strategic planning. The initiatives under PLANE showcase its dedication to fostering best practices in education and advancing communication efficiency within the sector.
