In a bid to bolster international collaboration and expand global exposure for its participants, the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS) recently completed a two-week immersion programme at South Carolina State University (SCSU), USA.
The ULBS delegation was led by Professor Sunday Adebisi, who also served as a facilitator, and Ms. Okon Itoro Archibong, a current Executive MBA participant and prospective Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student. The invitation to attend was extended to Professor Adebisi in recognition of his expertise and commitment to advancing entrepreneurial development across borders.
Also joining the programme were eleven students and two faculty members from the Business School of the American International University in Nairobi, Kenya, reinforcing the event’s pan-African academic spirit.
The immersion officially commenced on Monday, June 8, 2025, with welcome addresses delivered by the President of SCSU, the Mayor of Orangeburg, and a representative of the Orangeburg Parliament. The programme featured a rich blend of academic, cross-cultural, and networking activities tailored to enhance participants’ understanding of global business practices.
Participants engaged in a series of seminars and presentations covering key areas such as Finance, International Trade, Research Methodologies, Artificial Intelligence, Strategic Management, and Agric-Business—one of SCSU’s flagship domains.
A key highlight was a special session facilitated by Prof. Adebisi, where he shared insights on Africa’s entrepreneurship potential and the importance of strengthening global partnerships between institutions in the Global North and South. He reaffirmed ULBS’s dedication to fostering international collaboration in research and investment.
Beyond the academic experience, the programme also incorporated cultural tours to historic landmarks, including the iconic Historic Stone at SCSU—designed by Nigerian Professor Filani—the Art House in Orangeburg, and the South Carolina House of Assembly. A visit to SCSU’s Demonstration Farm exposed participants to cutting-edge innovations in hydroponics, vertical farming, and the intersection of agriculture and artificial intelligence.
The immersion culminated in a closing ceremony where participants received Certificates of Attendance and unique works of art as souvenirs. More than just a study visit, the experience fostered international networking, professional development, and renewed academic bonds between Africa and the U.S.
This initiative is part of ULBS’s broader mission to provide its students with global learning opportunities that shape them into world-class leaders and innovators.
