The University of Jos has formally commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for its impactful intervention in the country’s education sector, describing the initiative as a major boost to students’ access to higher education. The commendation was conveyed in an official letter issued by the Office of the Bursar of the University and dated November 24, 2025.
In the letter addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NELFUND, the Bursar of the University of Jos, Mr. Fada P. Umbugala, praised the Fund’s leadership for what he described as “giant strides” in reshaping Nigeria’s educational system within a short period of operation. He noted that NELFUND’s operational effectiveness has renewed hope for the future of education in the country.
The University also confirmed the receipt of a substantial loan disbursement from NELFUND in support of its students. According to the letter, a total sum of ₦622,780,000 was released to the institution on November 6, 2025, for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The funds represent education loans granted to 4,450 students of the University of Jos, aimed at easing financial constraints and enabling beneficiaries to continue their academic pursuits without interruption. The management of the institution acknowledged the importance of the intervention in promoting equity and access within the university system.
The University expressed optimism about sustaining a cordial and productive relationship with NELFUND, while reaffirming its appreciation for the Fund’s support. The letter concluded with assurances of the institution’s commitment to transparency and collaboration in ensuring that the objectives of the student loan scheme are fully realized.
