The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and strategic collaboration with the media as it hosted journalists from print, broadcast, and digital platforms at its 2025 Annual Media Parley.
The engagement, held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Senate Lounge of the UNILAG Senate House, brought together members of the university’s management and representatives of the Nigerian media community for dialogue, reflection, and celebration.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, described the media as indispensable partners in national development and institutional growth. She expressed appreciation for the professionalism, fairness, and constructive criticism demonstrated by journalists in their coverage of the university throughout the year.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, media scrutiny has played a critical role in shaping better decision-making within the institution, noting that responsible reportage strengthens governance and fosters trust between the university and the public.
The Chairman of the Education Writers Association of Nigeria (EWAN), Mr. Mojeed Alabi, who spoke on behalf of the media, underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between tertiary institutions and education journalists. He acknowledged the persistent challenges facing Nigeria’s higher education sector and commended UNILAG’s management for maintaining standards of excellence despite prevailing constraints.
Mr. Alabi further called for stronger partnerships among stakeholders to build a more resilient and inclusive education system that serves the collective interest of the nation.
A major highlight of the parley was the recognition of Prince Yemi Omoboriowo, who retired in April 2025 after years of service as a Higher Technical Photographer. The event also featured the announcement of Miss Olanike Ogunshakin, Senior Assistant Registrar (Media and Publicity), and Mr. Olawale Fagbulu, Principal Transport Officer, as Communication Unit Staff of the Year.
Adding colour to the gathering were a spoken word poetry performance by Mabel Osagiede, a 400-level Law student, alongside interactive games and social activities that fostered camaraderie among participants.
The 2025 Media Parley once again reinforced UNILAG’s resolve to sustain open communication and mutual respect with the media in pursuit of institutional transformation and national development.
