The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially launched its Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, across its five member countries — Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The new platform, which is accessible via mobile devices and the web, is designed to simplify certificate management for candidates, institutions and other stakeholders. Through the WAEC DigiCert system, users can securely access, request, confirm and share digital versions of their certificates.
In addition to certificate verification, the platform also allows candidates to recover lost WAEC examination numbers — a development expected to significantly reduce the administrative delays previously associated with manual processes.
WAEC stated that the system guarantees the authenticity of certificates and offers considerable cost and time benefits to users. The Council noted that following a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, the initiative received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions both locally and internationally.
Stakeholders and members of the public have been encouraged to adopt the digital platform in order to avoid bottlenecks often experienced with physical certificate issuance and collection.
Despite the innovation, WAEC reassured candidates that the traditional printing and issuance of hard-copy certificates will continue uninterrupted.
The WAEC DigiCert mobile application is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users respectively. Further information can be obtained via WAEC’s official website and its verified social media platforms.
