Kano – The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, CSC Musbahu Lawan, revealed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the achievement was made possible through the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.
According to him, the initiative reflects the implementation of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which focuses on rehabilitating and reforming inmates through education and vocational training.
He also highlighted the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, who had urged custodial centres nationwide to enroll inmates in academic and vocational programmes. The goal, he said, is to equip inmates with the knowledge and skills they need to reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
Lawan quoted the Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Mr. Ado Inuwa, as expressing pride in the inmates’ performance and wishing them continued success in their journey of reformation.
Also reacting, the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his commitment to improving the welfare of inmates. She emphasized that providing educational opportunities helps inmates rebuild their lives and become positive ambassadors in society.
Some of the beneficiaries described their results as a turning point, saying it gave them renewed hope for the future.
