The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced plans to upgrade its system and student database to identify and prevent dropouts from continuing to receive stipends.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, NELFUND’s Executive Director of Operations, Mustapha Iyal, explained that the update is necessary to ensure that only eligible students benefit from the fund.
“Our current focus is on updating our system, particularly the student database. Without this update, it is difficult to determine who is still enrolled in school,” Iyal stated.
He emphasized that the fund is working closely with institutions to verify student enrollment status, ensuring that individuals who have left school do not continue to receive financial support.
The director noted that the upcoming 2024/2025 application cycle would provide an opportunity to improve the database, allowing for a more accurate and transparent allocation of funds.
“Some applicants may not receive further stipends because they only attended the 2023/2024 session but did not transition into the 2024/2025 academic year,” he added.
NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that financial assistance reaches only deserving students, reinforcing accountability in the disbursement of educational loans.
