The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has resumed the disbursement of upkeep allowances to student beneficiaries who recently updated their account details from digital wallets to commercial bank accounts.
This move comes as a relief to over 3,600 students who previously experienced delays in receiving their stipends due to complications linked to digital-only banking platforms. The affected students have now successfully received their backlog of payments after switching to traditional commercial bank accounts via the official NELFUND portal.
According to a statement signed by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, the resumed payments mark a “significant breakthrough” in addressing the disbursement issues faced by many students across the country.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all affected students during this period. Your resilience and cooperation have made this progress possible,” Oluwatuyi stated.
Support for Students Yet to Receive Payment
For students who are yet to receive their upkeep funds and are still using digital wallet accounts, NELFUND has advised them to raise a support ticket through the official portal to request permission to update their bank details. Alternatively, they may report through their institution’s IT office, which will compile and forward such cases for resolution.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no eligible student is left behind in its mission to provide accessible and reliable financial support.
A Call for Vigilance and Peer Support
Students have been urged to engage strictly through NELFUND’s official channels and to assist fellow beneficiaries who may encounter challenges while updating their bank information.
“We continue working to deliver a more inclusive and reliable student loan experience,” the statement read.
