The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMind AI to develop an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to revolutionise lesson preparation for over 1.5 million licensed Nigerian educators.
Speaking during the MoU signing in Abuja on Wednesday, TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, described the project as a transformative step toward raising teaching quality across the country. The platform, she explained, will provide contextualised, simulation-based lesson plans tailored to Nigeria’s educational needs.
“We want AI-generated lesson plans that are tailored for our children. Every lesson will also be simulated because 21st-century learners need to see and experience concepts for deep learning,” Dr. Soyombo said.
Unlike generic global teaching tools, the TRCN-GMind AI platform will integrate Nigeria’s history, culture, and lived realities into its content. For example, while students will still learn about the Victorians, they will also gain deep knowledge of indigenous civilisations such as the Ife and Benin Kingdoms.
The platform will officially launch on October 6, following the August 25 unveiling of TRCN’s redesigned website, which will include multilingual video guides. National training programmes will then be conducted across all six geopolitical zones to ensure teachers can effectively use the platform.
The platform will offer:
AI-generated, simulation-ready lesson plans for digitally proficient teachers.
Prescriptive, ready-to-use plans for educators with limited ICT skills.
Content for all subjects, available online, at TRCN state offices, and in downloadable formats.
Lessons adapted for gifted, average, and less able learners, with a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on activities.
Exceptional teachers will contribute to creating prescriptive lesson plans, reinforcing the idea of “teachers supporting teachers”. By reducing the time educators spend on lesson planning, TRCN hopes teachers can focus more on meeting the specific needs of their students.
Dr. Deji Ajani, GMind AI’s Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation, described the initiative as a flagship example of how artificial intelligence can be applied to Africa’s education sector.
“We are excited to co-create TRCN AI, a customised ecosystem that merges cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s specific educational requirements,” he said.
While the programme is tailored for Nigerian classrooms, it will be available to all TRCN-registered and licensed educators globally, positioning Nigeria as a leader in culturally responsive AI education tools.
