The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), JAMB Chapter, has pledged its full support for the successful conduct of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Union also praised the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), under the leadership of Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for maintaining a cordial and productive working relationship with staff unions.
Speaking in an interview with JAMBulletin on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the Chairman of JAMB-NASU, Comrade Andrew Onakpa, said the Union was committed to working closely with Management to ensure a smooth and credible examination.
He noted that NASU would mobilise its members nationwide to support all stages of the 2026 UTME in line with JAMB’s statutory responsibilities.
“NASU remains ready to continue working with Management to ensure the successful conduct of the 2026 UTME,” Onakpa said.
Onakpa explained that the Union’s participation in the Examination Bodies and Libraries Trade Group Council Meeting held in Awka, Anambra State, from December 3 to 4, 2025, reflected the importance it attaches to JAMB’s examination processes.
He added that JAMB delegates at the meeting shared insights into the Board’s operations.
He stressed that collaboration among examination bodies and libraries was vital to improving service delivery and strengthening the education sector.
Reflecting on the outgoing year, the NASU chairman said the Union recorded significant achievements in 2025, largely due to effective cooperation with JAMB Management.
He cited the Staff Promotion Examination as an example, noting that both parties worked together to ensure a transparent and timely exercise nationwide.
He also commended Management for its welfare initiatives, particularly efforts aimed at improving staff well-being before and after retirement.
According to him, NASU’s involvement in relevant committees helped protect staff interests.
Onakpa further praised the Board for providing medical and financial assistance to staff, describing the support as timely and morale-boosting.
Looking ahead, he urged the JAMB Registrar to prioritise staff conversion and upgrade matters in 2026. He also appealed for a review of the current 10 per cent Examination Security and Incentives Allowance, citing rising living and logistics costs.
“A review of the allowance will help staff cope with current economic realities and support the smooth conduct of the 2026 UTME,” he said.
