The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, brought its staff together for a one-day workshop and end-of-year retreat focused on growth, professionalism and service.
Dean of SPGS, Professor Abraham Osinubi, said the programme reflects the School’s resolve to move beyond routines and titles to build the right attitude, character and mindset among staff.
He noted that the workshop was designed to strengthen soft skills such as communication, emotional intelligence, ethics, teamwork, time management and conflict resolution.
“This workshop is not just about ideas,” Prof. Osinubi told participants. “It is about practical tools you can apply daily as the faces of this School.”
The workshop, themed Administration and Professionalism in the Workplace, was declared open by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Victoria Abosede Wickliffe.
She praised the theme, describing it as timely and aligned with her vision for the UNILAG Registry.
Mrs. Wickliffe urged staff to recommit to ethics, professionalism and responsibility, stressing the importance of open-mindedness, continuous learning, fairness, cooperation and collaboration for sustained relevance and quality service delivery.
Sessions at the workshop were facilitated by Dr. Adegboyega Ehinmowo, Immediate Past Sub-Dean (SPGS), who spoke on Student Experience: The Role of Soft and Engagement Skills; Dr. Aliu Soyingbe, Acting Sub-Dean, SPGS, who addressed Work Ethics: Enhancing Integrity and Building Lasting Trust; and Mr. Akinwunmi Abolade, Deputy Registrar and Director, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, who spoke on Essential Skills for Effective University Professional Administrator.
A highlight of the retreat was the presentation of the SPGS First Responder Award to Olaoluyinka Damilola Shoremekun, Senior Assistant Registrar, in recognition of her proactiveness, diligence, discretion and initiative throughout 2025.
