Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening public education in Anambra State, announcing plans to recruit more teachers to improve learning outcomes.
Soludo spoke on Friday at the 50th anniversary of Uga Boys Secondary School in Aguata Local Government Area — the same school where his own journey began.
A pioneer student, the governor recalled his days as Library Prefect and later Senior Prefect, before graduating in 1980. He said the school, then known as Uga Secondary School, was one of only four secondary schools in the area and played a key role in shaping his academic foundation.
Visibly reflective, Soludo paid tribute to the school’s founders, teachers and host community, praising the dedication and professionalism of his former teachers, whom he credited for laying the groundwork for his success.
He assured students and staff that his administration would continue to prioritise education by creating a better learning environment and revitalising public schools across the state.
“Education remains our top priority. We are committed to rebuilding and strengthening public schools,” he said.
Earlier, the school’s Principal, Mr Benjamin Igwema, applauded the governor’s interventions, noting that recent reconstruction projects had improved learning conditions. He also praised the free education policy and payment of WASSCE fees, saying they had boosted enrolment and widened opportunities for students.
