896 new students at McPherson University, Seriki-Sotayo, Ogun State, have officially taken the matriculation oath, pledging to uphold the values, rules, and academic standards of the faith-based institution. The ceremony, held on Friday at the main auditorium, also marked their formal entry into what the Vice-Chancellor, Francis Igbasan, called a “Citadel of Champions.”
The matriculants included 881 undergraduates admitted through UTME and Direct Entry, alongside 15 postgraduate students.
Igbasan used the occasion to remind students that the oath is more than a formality — it’s a commitment to discipline, integrity, and responsible conduct. While the ceremony celebrated their admission, he warned that cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, bullying, sexual immorality, indecent dressing, violence, and disrespect for authority would not be tolerated.
“By taking this oath, you are formally joining a community committed to the highest academic standards and service to society,” the VC said. “Any violation of these values will attract sanctions, including expulsion.”
He further noted that students in the Bachelor of Laws and Nursing Science programmes must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.50 at the end of their first session to remain in their courses.
Encouraging the freshers to make the most of their time at McPherson, Igbasan urged them to be disciplined, punctual, and responsible, and to engage fully in both academic and extracurricular opportunities, all while committing to prayer and hard work.
Highlighting the university’s growth, he said 16 major projects had been commissioned over the past three and a half years to improve infrastructure, academic facilities, and student support services.
The VC concluded by congratulating the matriculants, welcoming them to the Citadel of Champions, and praying for their success and protection throughout their academic journey.
At McPherson University, the matriculation oath is not just ceremonial — it is a pledge to excellence, integrity, and leadership, setting the tone for the students’ journey toward becoming tomorrow’s leaders.
