The Winkler Campus of Red River College Polytechnic recently welcomed participants of the Red River Technology Vocational Area (RRTVA) “Amazing Race” tour, alongside Manitoba’s Minister of Advanced Education and Training, Renée Cable.
The tour, which made stops at several schools and vocational training centres across southern Manitoba, highlighted hands-on learning initiatives designed to prepare students for the region’s evolving workforce needs. At the Winkler Campus, the delegation engaged with students enrolled in the Health Care Aide programme, many of whom are Grade 12 students participating through the RRTVA network.
Representing five school divisions across the Pembina Valley, the students commute to the campus to complete their training—an approach that brings polytechnic-level education directly to rural communities. The model enables learners to gain industry-relevant skills while remaining in their local areas.
Shaun Hillman, Manager of the Winkler Campus, described the visit as an opportunity to showcase the value of expanding access to advanced education in rural Manitoba. He noted that providing local training pathways empowers students to build sustainable careers while contributing to the development of their home communities.
