Sokoto, June 12, 2026 — The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, on Friday led a delegation to the 2026 Democracy Day Celebration organised by the Students’ Union Government of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).
The event, held at the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Auditorium, FEED Main Campus, UDUS, was themed “Thank You President Tinubu for Making Democracy Work for Students.” It brought together students, university stakeholders, and development partners to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day and examine the impact of government policies and programmes on student welfare.

He encouraged eligible students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the scheme, noting that the programme is designed to remove financial barriers that prevent many young Nigerians from pursuing their educational aspirations.
The NELFUND boss also reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and continuous improvement of the student loan programme. According to him, the initiative remains a critical intervention aimed at ensuring that no qualified Nigerian student is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.
The delegation accompanying the Managing Director included the Technical Assistant to the MD/CE, Mr. Nasir Ayitogo; Mr. Ahmed Tijjani Mohammed, Deputy Manager, Strategic Communications; and Mr. Mukhtar Bashir Mustapha of the Information Technology Department.
The engagement provided an opportunity for direct interaction between NELFUND officials and students, while reinforcing the Fund’s ongoing sensitisation efforts to increase awareness, understanding, and participation in the student loan programme across the country.
The visit underscores NELFUND’s continued commitment to engaging stakeholders and ensuring that more Nigerian students benefit from the Federal Government’s education financing initiatives.
