CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF TRANSFORMING LIVES:
“Our school, Abolarin College, Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun State, on September 24, 2024 was proud to mark a decade of empowering rural, indigent children in Nigeria, providing free education for all students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to God Almighty and to the generous benefactors whom God has used to take us from humble beginnings to a school that has witnessed remarkable achievements during the course of the last decade. Many of our alumni have continued to shine bright, excelling at their various universities. We especially celebrate one of our own who recently graduated from Adeleke University, Ede, making him our very first alumni to become a graduate; an extraordinary testament to the power of dedication and community support. Here’s to many more years of unlocking potential and illuminating the path to success for generations to come!”
-Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá (Aroyinkeye 1) in Osun State. He is the founder and proprietor of Abolarin College.
Built on a large expanse of land that can easily accommodate several football pitches, the school boasts of modern facilities throughout – such as solar power, two big generators, well-equipped physics, chemistry and biology laboratories, a school library, a very large and well-appointed dining hall, multiple classrooms, an all-purpose hall which also serves as the examination hall, a decent computer room and even a state of the art greenhouse where many of the vegetables that they eat are grown.
As a reflection of the royal father’s nationalistic outlook, many of the students are not just from outside Oke-Ila but are not even from the South West of Nigeria. As you find those from the South East, so we will find others from Akwa Ibom, Borno and other parts of Nigeria too.
The 10
-year-old school which now has a sizable population of 135 students began with just 35 students. As a result, its monthly outgoings to cover the cost of power, feeding, salaries and other expenses runs into millions of Naira. Asked how he has been able to sustain this and the King answered that it has been purely by the help of God who has continuously raised individuals and organizations to support his noble project. But not being in any way immune to the cost of living crisis which has increasingly gripped the entire nation in the last few years, funding has become quite a struggle. If only one of the nation’s corporate organisations can see what the royal father is trying to do by bridging the gap in society and bringing hope to the life of these individuals, their families, their immediate community and the multiplier development an educated indegene will catalyse in the society at large, maybe they would adopt this school as an additional avenue of contributing to the socio economic wellbeing of the nation and to ensure its sustainability.
Here is wishing Abolarin College another fruitful decade and beyond of growth, success and positive impact.
