The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is now accepting applications for the 2026 In-Country/In-Region Masters and PhD Scholarship Programme. The initiative aims to strengthen internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and foster development-driven academic excellence.
Through this programme, DAAD provides fully funded scholarships to outstanding students and young researchers pursuing development-related Masters or PhD studies who intend to pursue academic or research careers at African higher education institutions.

Programme Objectives
The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Programme seeks to:
Build capacity for sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Support postgraduate training for future university staff and researchers.
Strengthen regional cooperation and academic mobility.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Be graduates or postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa.
Hold a first degree (for Masters applicants) or a Masters degree (for PhD applicants).
Plan to study in their home country or another Sub-Saharan African country.
Female candidates and applicants from less-privileged regions are strongly encouraged to apply.
