The Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU) is inviting applications for PhD and Master’s student positions to join the Nan Computational Chemistry & Engineering Lab, led by Dr. Yiling Nan.
Research Focus
The group develops and applies:
Molecular dynamics (MD)
Quantum mechanics simulations (QM)
Machine learning methods
to address challenges in sustainable energy solutions, with applications including:
⚡ Lithium-ion batteries
💧 High-salinity water treatment
🔬 Separation processes
⚙️ Development & application of Drude polarizable force fields
Candidate Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
Strong interest in computational chemistry, computational modeling, and/or data science
Coding experience (Python, C/C++, Fortran, or related) is a plus, but not required
High motivation to learn is essential
