The family of Nigeria’s former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has announced his passing earlier today, Saturday, July 13, 2025.
According to a statement signed by Garba Shehu, a long-time spokesperson for the former president, Buhari died this afternoon in a clinic in London, United Kingdom. The announcement did not disclose the cause of death but expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” the statement concluded, invoking prayers in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Buhari, a retired Major General in the Nigerian Army and former Head of State from 1983 to 1985, served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. His leadership, marked by an emphasis on anti-corruption, national security, and economic recovery, left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political history.
