The pioneer set of Ewutuntun Grammar School, the Class of 1985, has set a shining example of alumni impact by inaugurating and handing over a newly refurbished administrative block, principal’s office, and four fully furnished classrooms to their alma mater in Mafoluku-Oshodi, Lagos.
The landmark gesture was carried out as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of their graduation.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Ewutuntun Grammar School Old Students’ Association, Otunba Adekunle Jaiyesinmi, expressed profound joy and pride at the group’s achievement.
“We are always happy to give back to our alma mater,” he said. “This project gladdens our hearts as we commemorate 40 years since our graduation. Through this generous undertaking, the Class of ’85 has reminded us of the power of unity, service, and giving back. Ewutuntun Grammar School is not just a school – it is a family.”
The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mrs Mojisola Yusuff, commended the old students for their laudable initiative and urged current students to make good use of the new facilities.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Abiola Dokunmu-Adegbite, praised Otunba Jaiyesinmi, the Chairman of the 40th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Alhaji Wasiu Balogun, and other members of the Class of 1985 for their generosity, describing their efforts as a true example of community-driven educational advancement.
She also applauded the principals, vice-principals, and teachers of both the senior and junior grammar schools for their continued dedication to nurturing excellence among students.
The colourful inauguration ceremony, attended by education officials, alumni members, teachers, and students, was filled with excitement, nostalgia, and gratitude.
As the first graduating set, the Class of 1985 has once again demonstrated the enduring power of legacy, unity, and service to future generations.
