The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has officially opened applications for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a landmark initiative designed to transform student-driven ideas into commercially viable, high-impact ventures.
The S-VCG forms a central part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to nurture a new generation of Nigerian innovation entrepreneurs capable of driving the nation’s economic future.
Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Tunji Alausa FAMedS, CON, emphasized the national importance of the initiative. “The President has challenged us to look for the next Moonshot within our tertiary institutions. We are not just looking for projects; we are scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns whose roots will be planted right here in our universities and colleges. This is an equity-free seed investment in Nigeria’s future,” he stated.
The S-VCG will provide up to ₦50 million in equity-free grants to student founders whose ventures address real-world challenges and demonstrate clear potential for scalability and commercialization. Eligible projects must focus on STEMM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences.
Successful applicants will benefit from a comprehensive support ecosystem that includes:
Intensive incubation programs to accelerate venture development
Expert mentorship from seasoned entrepreneurs and industry leaders
Full access to tools, platforms, and resources needed to develop and scale their startups
In a strategic partnership with Google, the Ministry will also integrate advanced technology into the S-VCG application and evaluation process. Google’s Gemini AI will power custom-built “evaluation agents” to ensure fair, intelligent, and efficient review of submissions.
Furthermore, every applicant who successfully submits a business project or innovation will receive a one-year free Google Gemini Pro license and premium learning resources to strengthen entrepreneurial and technical capabilities.
