The Federal Government has officially commenced payment of the ₦22,500 monthly stipend to participants of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Beneficiaries who have completed their registration, documentation, and physical verification, and who have maintained good attendance at their training centres, have begun receiving credit alerts.
Nigeria Startup News confirmed that the disbursement started on December 2, with many trainees taking to Facebook to announce the arrival of the stipend using posts such as: “TVET ₦22,500 stipend has started dropping. Check your SMS and account balance.”
The payment rollout follows concerns raised by Seyi Sowunmi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ojo Federal Constituency. He warned that delayed stipends had already contributed to declining attendance in several training centres. “We cannot expect commitment from trainees when the system has not honoured its commitments to them,” he said.
Despite the commencement of payments, questions linger about whether ₦22,500 is sufficient, especially for trainees who spend a significant portion of the allowance on transportation to their centres. Many participants reportedly rely heavily on the stipend to sustain their daily attendance.
Applicants whose dashboard status still reads “Pending” remain ineligible for the stipend. They are advised to keep checking their portal until their status updates to “Approved.”
