The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false the viral online reports alleging that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was cancelled due to widespread examination malpractice.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Ministry clarified that the 2025 WAEC examinations were concluded successfully, with only a few isolated cases of malpractice, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities.
It further affirmed that the ongoing NECO examinations are progressing without incident, with no reports of malpractice recorded so far.
“There has been no official announcement from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body suggesting any cancellation or major irregularities,” the statement read. “We urge students, parents, and the public to disregard such fake news and rely solely on credible sources for accurate information.”
The Ministry advised the public to verify information via the following official websites:

www.waecnigeria.org
www.neco.gov.ng
It also warned that the deliberate spread of false information is a punishable offense, and those responsible will be reported to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
