The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has issued a stern warning against any planned protest or gathering within the university, cautioning individuals and groups—particularly the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)—to desist from actions that could disrupt peace and academic activities on campus.
In a statement signed by the SUG President, James Adio; General Secretary, Ayorinde Alao; and Public Relations Officer, David Abiola, the students’ body vowed not to tolerate any “unauthorised gathering or disruption of peace” within the university.
The warning follows reports that the Ekiti State chapter of the NYCN planned a mass protest at FUOYE’s main campus on Monday, November 3, 2025, over alleged abuse of office by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.
NYCN’s state Chairman, Segun Bankole, and General Secretary, Silas Olawale, had announced plans to temporarily relocate the council’s office to FUOYE’s campus during the protest until their demands were met.
Responding, the SUG, in a statement titled “Letter of Resistance and Warning Against National Youth Council of Nigeria Protest Within FUOYE,” described the move as unacceptable.
“The university community is not a ground for political mobilisation or external agitation,” the SUG said.
“No external body or association is permitted to conduct protests or gatherings within the institution without the explicit approval of the Students’ Union.”
The union warned of “dire consequences” if the NYCN proceeded with its planned protest, adding that disciplinary and legal measures would be taken to protect the sanctity of the university.
“Your proposed activity is unauthorised, unnecessary, and capable of disrupting the peace, order, and stability currently enjoyed on campus,” the statement continued.
“Any disregard of this warning will be viewed as provocation and trespass. The union, in collaboration with the university management and relevant security agencies, will act accordingly.”
The SUG urged the NYCN to respect FUOYE’s autonomy and pursue dialogue through lawful and peaceful channels.
“FUOYE remains committed to peace, stability, and progress through constructive engagement,” the union added.
