The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and the Nigerian Police force, Ondo State command have agreed to firm up collaboration and relationship to ensure better security in the institution.
This was revealed when the Ondo State Commissioner of police paid a working visit to the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Olaiji on Tuesday September 30, 2025.
The commissioner of Police said the University can count on the Policeforce in ensuring adequate security.
He commended FUTA students for exhibiting good behaviour, recounting that since taking office, he has not experienced any form insecurity or crime related to FUTA.
He admitted that security is not a “one-man’s job”, but everyone’s responsibility.
Furthermore, Adebowale highlighted the crucial importance of students’ safety, disclosing plans to create a platform where stakeholders and the state security personnel can liaise.
“The collaboration will be in accordance with the secure measures of Futa as they have stood the test of time over years” he stated.
Responding, the vice chancellor appreciated the commissioner for his time despite busy schedule. She restated the university’s peculiarity, emphasising that security cannot be handled with kid-glove.
In her words, a lot has to be done by the Students Union by deepening its collaboration with the University management and relevant security agencies in order to ensure the safety of students, particularly the ones living off campus.
Finally, Professor Oladiji assured the students and the commissioner that FUTA, in its capacity, will continue to put in place effective measures to improve the security of lives and property in and out of the university.
The Commissioner was accompanied by DPO Okuta Elerinla, CSP Adejoke Sulaimon , and Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
