Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah, the National Assembly Member (NAM) for Banjul North, has awarded scholarships to 10 students in his constituency.
The initiative was made possible by a generous donation of D100,000 from Mr. Serign Hadim Gai, chairman of SMG ICD Ltd., to the Banjul North Constituency Education Scholarship Fund.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Hon. Bah officially presented the scholarship funds, allocating D75,000 to cover tuition fees for the selected students to attend skills training at the Crab Island Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Center for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The remaining D25,000 will be used to support the tuition fees of other students within the constituency. Hon. Bah emphasized that the scholarship program is part of his commitment to youth empowerment through education, aiming to address challenges such as drug abuse and crime.
Since its establishment less than three years ago, the Banjul North Constituency Education Scholarship Fund has supported 60 students. Hon. Bah expressed gratitude to Mr. Gai for his contribution and urged other stakeholders to support similar educational initiatives to benefit more students in the community.
He reiterated that education is vital for unlocking opportunities and ensuring a sustainable future for the youth.
