History was made on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, as thousands of teachers converged for the Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025. The event has now been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest gathering of teachers in the world.
The convener of the conference, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, described the milestone as a collective victory for every teacher, policymaker, and supporter of education in Nigeria. “This is not just my win, or the win of an organization. This is our win — the win of every teacher who showed up, every partner who believed, and every Nigerian who echoed the message that teachers matter. Together, we did this,” he said.
The event received strong institutional support, particularly from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire. She was represented by Dr. Ify (Head, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation), Mrs. Patricia Aniebue (Head, Policy and Strategy), and Mr. Abubakar Haruna (Head, Administration). Their presence underscored the government’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
The conference was powered by 1 Million Teachers, led by founders Hakeem Subair and Rizma Butt, whose vision has been central to elevating teachers worldwide.
Corporate Nigeria also played a key role. BIC served as the headline sponsor, alongside other partners such as Erudio Hub, Providence Hotel, Channels TV, British Council, GB Foods, Bigi, Indomie, UAC Foods, Reel Fruit, Edugist, EDVES, Beloxxi, The Learning Craft, Caleb International School, Atlantic Hall School, Future Perspectives, Wazobia FM, Kids FM, Nigeria Info FM, and Market Doctor.
Supporting partners included Protego, Becs Signature, S&T Communications, Greatminds Studio, Teetops Place, Moo Production, Vash Consult, and Coachfrica, while exhibitors such as Skillcitadel, R educate, Ai Teacha, E-Byte Africa, Tuteria, 1MT’s Village, Adasi, Ceceyara, ALX Africa, and Your Study Path enriched the conference.
Government agencies such as Lagos SUBEB, TESCOM, NUT, and NAPPS were also commended for their support. Special recognition went to state governors including Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), praised for prioritizing teachers’ welfare and consistent support for education.
Anifowose concluded with a stirring declaration: “This is more than a Guinness World Record. It is a declaration, a legacy, and a call to action. The world is now listening to Nigerian teachers. History has been made. Teachers have spoken. The world is celebrating.”
