The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has responded to reactions trailing the proposed logo for its 41st Convocation Ceremony after students and members of the public questioned the design on social media.
The conversation began after the university unveiled a proposed convocation logo, prompting a wave of comments from students, alumni and other stakeholders, with some suggesting the design looked AI-generated.
One Facebook user, Adebayo Ibukun Mayowa, asked, “Is this not AI?”
Another commenter, Hussein Adoto Bello, wrote, “The university can do better than using what looks like an AI logo for its 41st Convocation.”
Banmeke Ilerioluwa also questioned the design process, saying, “Fully AI. Don’t we have a media team that can actually build a solid one?”
Others took a lighter approach. Abo Lore joked, “See as logo be like digestive biscuit.”
Responding to the reactions, the university, in a statement published on its official Facebook page, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, said it appreciated everyone who had commented on the proposed logo.
“The management of the University of Ilorin appreciates everybody that has commented on the proposed logo for our 41st Convocation Ceremonies,” the statement read.
According to the university, the volume and variety of comments reflected the level of public interest in the institution and its activities.
“The variety and depth of the various comments show vividly the interest the general public has in the affairs of the University,” the management stated.
The university also clarified that the logo had not been finalised and remained under development.
“We want to assure our well wishers that the logo design is work-in-progress and we thank you all for your comments,” the statement added.
The statement, signed by the university management and dated September 29, 2026, was shared via the institution’s official Facebook page, University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
While UNILORIN did not directly address the AI-related criticisms, its response suggests that feedback from students, alumni and other members of the public is being considered as work continues on the final design for the 41st Convocation logo.
