The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has reaffirmed its strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, with a strict zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice. This position was underscored during the on-going University Advanced Basic Studies (UABS) JUPEB Examinations, which commenced on Monday, August 4, 2025, and spanned through to Friday, August 15, 2025.
On Monday, August 11, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, received JUPEB Supervisors Professors Olawoye Moses and Caleb Gbiri from the University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife respectively, who were in FUTA to monitor the examinations conducted by FUTA’s Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). The Supervisors commended the University for its high-quality examination conduct, noting that there had been no record of malpractice among the 412 candidates sitting for the examinations.
Professor Oladiji, in her remarks, assured the team that FUTA would continue to uphold the integrity for which JUPEB is known. “As board members of JUPEB, we are committed to ensuring it remains an examination whose results command respect. We have reached a point where even JAMB attends our board meetings because of the integrity we uphold. I cannot be here and allow the wrong things to be done,” she said.
While paying an unannounced assessment visit to the students in the examination halls and laboratories where practical sessions were on-going, the Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the students’ comportment, punctuality, and level of seriousness. She said “Everything is going on smoothly. I must commend the examiners because they are effectively in charge, and the students are well behaved and focused,” adding that the calm and confident atmosphere was a reflection of good preparation.
She lauded the dedication of staff at the Centre and the cooperation of the external supervisors towards the success of the examinations and disclosed that on-going renovation projects would provide new laboratories and accommodation facilities students’ use according to global standards.
The duo of Professors Olawoye Moses and Caleb Gbiri commended the University for the warm reception they had received, quality accommodation, and its strict adherence to examination rules whilst praising the increase in the number of candidates (double the figure from previous years) attributing it to effective leadership, and stressed the need for further improvement in standardization.
In her address, Director, CCE, Professor Olufunmilayo Oladipo, corroborated that FUTA had not fallen short of the standard as having two supervisors was in compliance with JUPEB regulations, noting that JUPEB examination is monitored on a ratio of one supervisor to 200 candidates. She assured the Centre’s continued diligence in organizing successful and malpractice-free examinations.
