The Ilupeju Grammar School Old Students’ Association (ILUGRAMOSA) is in high spirits as one of its own, Professor Maryam Omolara Quadri, emerges as the first female Professor of Political Science at the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Prof. Quadri, a proud member of the Ilugrams Class of 1983, has carved her name into the annals of Nigerian academic history—an achievement that is being hailed as both inspiring and groundbreaking by her former schoolmates.
In a message shared by Mr. Niyi Okedairo, a fellow alumnus, he stated:
“Congratulations Prof. Maryam Omolara Quadri, Ilugrams ’83 set, on this great achievement. More feathers to your cap.”
The association described her achievement as a beacon of hope for younger generations and a strong testament to the values instilled at Ilupeju Grammar School.
“From our humble classrooms in Ilupeju to the halls of one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities, Prof. Quadri has shown what determination, discipline, and education can achieve,” said a spokesperson for ILUGRAMOSA. “We are not just proud; we are inspired.”
Her trailblazing promotion represents more than a personal milestone—it reflects the resilience and brilliance of Nigerian women in academia, particularly those who often begin their journeys in modest public schools.
Prof. Quadri’s story is one of consistency, intellect, and heart. Over the decades, she has distinguished herself through scholarly excellence, compassionate leadership, and unwavering dedication to both her students and academic community.
“She is a living example that greatness can come from anywhere—even from a public school in Ilupeju,” said another member of the alumni association.
“She has broken barriers for women and lifted the banner of our alma mater high.”
“As the University of Lagos celebrates its first female professor in political science, Ilupeju Grammar School celebrates a daughter of the soil—one who has made history and left a legacy for others to follow” another alumni added.
