The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released on or before Thursday, August 4.
The Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday through the Council’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.
The statement was issued in response to viral reports circulating on social media, claiming that the entire examination had been cancelled due to widespread malpractice and leakage of question papers. WAEC described the report as entirely false and baseless.
“Our attention has been drawn to a press statement alleging the cancellation of all papers written during the just-concluded WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025,” the Council stated. “The said press release, dated Saturday, July 19, and circulating across social media platforms, falsely claims that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC jointly cancelled the examination due to malpractice and unauthorised digital dissemination of exam materials.”
WAEC strongly denied the allegations, affirming that the Council did not issue such a statement and that the source of the fake news remains unknown. The Council described the claims as the handiwork of mischief-makers aimed at causing confusion and panic among candidates and stakeholders.
“The Council wishes to make it categorically clear that the examination has not been cancelled. The marking of scripts has just concluded, and results will be officially released on or before August 4, 2025,” the statement confirmed.
WAEC further urged the public to rely only on information shared through its official and verified social media platforms and accredited news channels. It also clarified that all official press releases are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
“We therefore advise all stakeholders and the general public to disregard the misleading publication and remain calm,” the Council concluded.
