Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Radda, has approved ₦677.6 million for bursary allowances, academic excellence awards, and special scholarships for Katsina students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
This was announced in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohamed, on Saturday. He said the move reflects Radda’s commitment to educational empowerment and inclusiveness under his Building Your Future agenda.
According to the statement, ₦283.5 million will go to newly admitted students as bursary allowances, ₦15 million for the state’s Academic Excellence Award for First-Class graduates, and ₦7 million for students with special needs.
This follows an earlier ₦372 million released in September for continuing students, bringing the total disbursement for the 2024/2025 session to ₦677.6 million.
Since assuming office, Governor Radda has spent about ₦2.6 billion on scholarships and bursaries, benefitting tens of thousands of students.
The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr. Aminu Tsauri, hailed the approval as a landmark move that renews hope for students, especially those from low-income families.
Award letters for beneficiaries will be distributed starting Tuesday, October 28, while students in the Nigerian Law School are to report to the Scholarship Board Headquarters between October 27 and 30 for documentation.
Beyond local bursaries, the state’s foreign scholarship programme continues to support Katsina students studying specialised courses in China and Egypt, including Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, and Medicine.
Tsauri said the initiative reflects the Governor’s vision to equip Katsina youth with global knowledge and skills for innovation and growth.
