Kenya’s Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, has cautioned political leaders visiting Meru County to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid actions that could incite unrest among residents.
Speaking during a public event in Meru, Kindiki said leaders from other regions are welcome in the county but must respect local communities and refrain from behaviour capable of disrupting peace. According to him, political engagements should be carried out with discipline rather than confrontation.
The Deputy President described residents of Meru as peaceful and orderly, stressing that they do not tolerate hostility or unnecessary drama at public gatherings. He warned that authorities would take firm action against anyone attempting to stir tension in the region.
Kindiki also criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of disrespecting leaders and misleading residents through political rhetoric. Addressing Gachagua directly, he said he had repeatedly cautioned him against arrogance and urged him to respect both leaders and the people of Meru.
He further questioned Gachagua’s development record while serving as deputy president, alleging that he failed to deliver meaningful projects to the region. Kindiki also claimed that the former deputy president’s disagreements with President William Ruto slowed the implementation of government development initiatives.
The Deputy President maintained that the government would not allow political actors to destabilise the country through divisive statements, emphasising that national unity and stability remain a priority for the administration.
