Lagos Debate: Anwarul Islam Pupil, Raheem Deborah, Wins N3 Million as Agege Emerges Best in Statewide Contest
Raheem Deborah, a pupil of Anwarul Islam Primary School, Ogba, Agege, has won the ₦3 million grand prize at the 2025 Lagos State Public Primary Schools Debate Competition, leading the Agege Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) to emerge overall best in the highly competitive event.
The prestigious competition, organized by LG News Academy in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Embassy of Ireland, saw a record participation of 1,028 public primary schools from across Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
Team Agege stole the spotlight with a powerful display of eloquence, critical reasoning, and intellectual confidence. The winning team comprised three outstanding pupils:
Raheem Deborah – Anwarul Islam Primary School, Ogba, Agege
Abigeal Sobanjo – Ibukunolu Primary School, Orile Agege
Dania Omotola Grace – Ibukunolu Primary School, Orile Agege
Their stellar performance earned them the ₦3,000,000 (Three Million Naira) grand prize.
Reacting to the historic win, Mrs. Catherine Ogunyomi, the Education Secretary of Agege LGEA, expressed immense pride in the team:
“This achievement is a reflection of our commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.”
Also speaking was Mrs. Pedro Kafilat Toyin, the Executive Vice Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, who applauded the young stars:
“Our pupils have proven that Agege is home to some of the brightest minds in Lagos. We will not relent; we will continue to invest in and nurture the future leaders of tomorrow.”
