The Lagos State Government has urged students across the state to steer clear of drug abuse to protect their future and ambitions.
Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, made the call during the Official Flag-Off Ceremony and Sensitisation Campaign Against Drug Abuse at Government Girls’ College, Agege.
Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted worrying statistics showing that many young people, including students, are falling into substance abuse, putting their dreams and potential at risk. “Every young person carries a dream to be great, make a difference, and live a fulfilled life,” she said. “But that dream can only survive when the mind is clear, the body is healthy, and the heart is strong. Sadly, one of the biggest threats to those dreams is drug abuse.”
She urged students to focus on their studies, practice self-discipline, and believe in their ability to achieve their aspirations despite challenges.
Rev Dr Dele Ajayi, Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, and Dr Idowu Oyetola, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary represented by Maria Ojo, Director of School Administration, also advised students that avoiding drugs is key to building a successful future that brings joy to their families and pride to the nation.
