The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly while livestreaming, an action that reportedly resulted in a serious road accident.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Officers described Peller’s conduct as “suicidal” and capable of endangering the lives of other road users.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the influencer was taken into custody after the video circulated widely on social media.
The statement noted that Peller was seen driving at a dangerously high speed during a live broadcast, which led to a motor accident and posed grave risks to himself and innocent members of the public.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the lives of other innocent people,” the police said.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The police added that the outcome of the investigation would be made public and that the suspect would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and content creators, cautioning against the use of online platforms to promote reckless, dangerous or unlawful acts.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, unlawful and criminal behaviour,” the statement said.
He further stressed that such actions would not be tolerated, assuring that the full weight of the law would be applied to offenders. The command also urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reaffirming its commitment to public safety and order.
